The Root & Reckon Community of Practice
We partner with congregations who are ready to be challenged to discern their responsibility to dismantle systems of oppression. Your church might be a good fit if you are:
Exploring what comes after a Land and Indigenous Peoples Acknowledgement and are discerning your collective responsibilities.
Seeking to live out anti-racism commitments in tangible, place-based ways within your own church and religious tradition (maybe your church passed the UU 8th Principle or has displayed a BLM flag).
Looking for an intersectional approach that connects racial justice and environmental care.
Marking a milestone anniversary (ie 50, 100, 150 years) and wanting to engage your history with imagination and truth-full stories.
Hoping to grow ministry participation beyond a small core team through leadership development and sacred organizing practices.
Renewing energy for justice work after a less active season.
Discerning how to align church resources and assets with your values for community flourishing.
WHAT WE WILL DO TOGETHER
During the Community of Practice,
your team is invited to…
ROOT
Root in relationships and more truth-full stories of the Land and Place where your church is located. Your core team will work together to create a Land Stories project through archival research, oral histories, and community conversations.
RECKON
Reckon with your responsibility as a faith community to dismantle the ways that white supremacy and eurochristian colonialism of Turtle Island show up within your own congregation and religious tradition.
ACT
Act relationally toward collective liberation for the Land and all Peoples, human and nonhuman, through generational accountability, repair, and healing from Land severance.
Our Values
-
to live into courageous responsibility and accountability
-
and action to disrupt the cornerstones of oppression while living into new ways of being in community
-
of discernment and mutual accompaniment
-
for the diversity of Creation
-
as we become cosustainers of our watersheds
-
We are currently working with ecumenical Christian congregations and Unitarian Universalist congregations. We design our material to invite participants to root within their religious traditions and spiritual practices.
Let’s start a conversation

Fill out the form linked through the button below to get in contact with Bry Brannan, Minister for Land Discernment.
Through a free consultation and relational conversations, we will discern what offerings will be the most supportive for your church. We will work with you and your church budget when designing fee-for-service programming.
Root & Reckon is a ministry of Juniper Formation, a United Church of Christ faith community.
